The area now known as Tolt-McDonald Park was originally one of several large permanent wintering villages used by the Snoqualmie tribes. In the 1970s, Boy Scout Council Chief John MacDonald began to develop the area as a park and campground. Over 20,000 Boy Scouts spent about 5 months constructing campsites, picnic tables and shelters for the park, which was dedicated in June 1976.
The suspension bridge, which runs roughly east-west over the Snoqualmie River, is about 500 feet long and intended for pedestrian use only. (Bicyclists may also use the bridge, as long as they dismount and walk beside their bikes.) In addition to providing a beautiful view of the Snoqualmie, the bridge links the east and west campgrounds of the park. Overnight stays are available for a small fee if you bring your own tent or RV, or for a larger fee if you reserve one of the park's half-dozen yurts in advance.
