Drumlins (irisch/gälisch: Höhenrücken) sind längliche Hügel mit einem tropfenförmigen Grundriss. Die Hügel entstanden durch die Fließbewegung von Gletschern während der Eiszeit, wobei die Längsausrichtung der Fließrichtung des Gletschern entspricht. Die Drumlins bestehen aus Schotter oder Moränenmaterial, welches der Gletscher unter seinen Eis mitgeführt hat. In den Senken zwischen den Hügeln bildeten sich oft Seen, die langsam vermooren oder schon verlandet sind. Der Hegratsriedsee ist hier ein Beispiel für einen immer noch intakten See zwischen den Drumlins, die die Landschaft zwischen Forggensee und Bannwaldsee prägen.
