This beach is one of several locally where dogs can exercise the way they do off-leash - effectively and happily. But with a narrow set of dunes to the east, the ocean to the west, a boatramp to the north and a freshwater creek (Christies Creek) entering the sea to the south, it has something for everyone. Dog owners are mostly well-behaved, although there are the inevitable antisocial few who fail to pick up their dog's crap. The sea is clean and clear (except after storms) and in the summer delightfully warm which means that man and beast can frolic in the waves together. The freshwater creek means that fido can rinse the salt out of its fur while the owner enjoys the freshwater shower on the esplanade. Behind the dunes to the east is SA Water's Christies Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant. Treated water is discharged into the sea about 200m offshore, but there appear to be no major water quality problems (I swim in it). There is plenty of wildlife from raptors quartering the dunes to dolphins.
