The Old Town Hall was the first town hall of the city of Hanover. It is located in the old town and is the oldest secular building in the city. The oldest buildings on the marketplace and the Marktkirche road, together with the Marktkirche, the southernmost buildings of the North German brick Gothic architecture.
The first buildings were built back in 1410. After that, the building underwent several renovations and extensions. Air raids on Hanover led in 1943 to a partial destruction of the building complex, especially its oldest parts. Recovery took place in 1953 and 1964 was the exhibition reconstructed gable on the west side.
