I just couldn't post a YMCA waymark without trying to get a YWCA waymark approved in my area as well. So, here it is at 175 N Clinton Ave, Rochester, NY 14604.

Founded in 1883 by 11 enterprising women who saw a need to provide a boarding home for young women coming to Rochester to find work. They founded an organization and open a small boarding home. Eventually they voted to join the national organization known as the YWCA. In 1888, there was need to expand the space, and they added a gymnasium at that time. (

The face of the building where the YWCA is painted in large letters (see pictures) was at one time an unadorned wall abutting an adjacent building. That neighboring building has since been torn down, leaving a small triangular park in its place.
