The clock is suspended from the shop wall above the display window. It is supported by an ornate metal bracket. Underneath the clock is the name of the shop, Evans.
Matlock is a small town in the Peak District National Park that became famous in the Victorian Era as a Spa Town. It is still largely unspoilt with shopping streets that have not been lost to out of town developments.
The shop was established in 1893, the same year that a tram was established in the town, but I don’t know whether the clock also dates from that time.
I have noticed that jeweller’s shops often have clocks on their walls. Presumably in the times before electronically controlled watches and mobile phones it was a good advert for people wishing to buy clocks or watches.
