This aluminum orientation table is located near the Guards Memorial at the Horse Guards Parade and indicates that it was placed here to commemorate the Queen's 60th birthday. The table has a map of the location, an explanation and an image of the Parade Grounds...showing the Queen in a horse-drawn carriage reviewing the troops...as well as the surrounding buildings with the building's names listed above.
The table indicates that the depiction is of the Queen's 2002 Golden Jubilee celebration. This is confusing. The Queen turned 60 in 1986. This table was obviously created in or after 2002. Why would the table be placed here to mark the Queen's 60th birthday..and not a more recent milestone..her 70th or 75th. Strange.
ahhh.. on 3/7/12, MasterMariner explained:
"I have just read the description for this WM. When we refer to the Queen's jubilee we refer to the time since she became Queen. She took the throne in 1952 s0 2002 was her 50th jubilee. This year (2012) is her 60th jubilee year and we all get a day off work for it... Long Live the Queen!!!!"
