Chick and Ruth's Delly is a family operated eatery that is into its second generation and training the third to run the store. This is the "hole in the wall" type restaurant that you always want to know about and return to often! The menu is mainly sandwiches, but there are kids meals. See menu link on the first link below. Their milkshakes are as famous as their triple decker sandwiches. The menu runs the gambit of salad, soup & sandwich, seafood sandwich, wraps, subs, and burgers. They have an extensive breakfast menu too.
Every morning the staff gathers to say the Pledge of Alegiance to the US flag! The cashier is also doing double duty as the clerk for checking into the upstairs Bed & Breakfast hotel called the Scotlaur Inn Bed & Breakfast (see third link below).
In 2009, Chick and Ruth's Delly was featured on the TV show "Man vs. Food" where the show's host, Mr. Richman, came to win the Colossal Challenge. Richman had to eat a 1.5 pound sandwich made of 1 lb. turkey meat and 0.5 lb corned beef along with drinking a 6 lb. milkshake, all within a one hour time limit. Amazingly, Richman succeeded and became only the third person to beat the challenge!(see second link below: Annapolis, MD episode 12(30) filmed Aug 30, 2009 and aired on Oct 21, 2009)
I have eaten there several times while visiting Annapolis on business trips. I have delighted in their sandwiches, either single or double layered with your choice of meats. I have not tried the 6lb milkshake because their regular milkshake has enough shake in the mixer cup to refil the drink glass twice. Lots of cadets from the Naval Academy are found here and lots of state legislators are offen eating here during session. It would be a good candidate for entry into the book "1000 Places to See Before You Die."
