EN: Probably built around 1293 as a moated castle. It was destroyed and completely rebuilt several times. To name just a few examples: the earthquake of 1356, a fire in 1409, the wars of 1444. In 1545 the castle was built by Johann von Brügge, after his death it was revealed that this was an assumed name for the refuged Dutch Anabaptist leader David Joris.
In 1772 the moat was dried and the entrance was moved to the current location.
In 1870 it became a restaurant. Since 1960 the municipality of Binningen is the owner of the estate. In 2007 an adjoining building of the castle was renovated and opened as a hotel.
DE: Schloss Binningen wurde vermutlich um 1293 als Wasserschloss gebaut. Es wurde im Laufe der Jahrhunderte mehrmals komplett zerstört und wieder aufgebaut, z.B. beim Erdbeben von 1356, durch Feuer 1409 oder in den kriegerischen Auseinandersetzungen von 1444. 1545 wurde das Schloss von dem reichen Kaufmann Johann von Brügge erworben, nach seinem tod wurde entdeckt, dass dies der untergetauchte Täuferführer David Joris war.
Das Schloss wurde häufig umgebaut. Der Wassergraben wurde 1772 ausgetrocknet und der Haupteingang an die heutige Stelle verlegt.
Seit 1870 is das Schloss ein Resturant. Das Grundstück gehört seit 1960 der Gemeinde Binningen. Nach der letzten renovation 2007 wurde ein ehemaliges Nebengebäude als Hotel eröffnet.
