"Der Rombergpark im Dortmunder Süden wird vom Schondellebach durchflossen. An den oben angegebenen Koordinaten befindet sich ein Quellgebiet, auch die hier entspringenden Wasserläufe münden in den Schondellebach. Einige dieser Bäche führen gelben Eisenocker (Rost) in hoher Konzentration mit sich, der vom unterirdischen Wasser aus Eisensteinschichten zwischen den hier vorkommenden Kohleflözen gelöst wurde. Der sich bildende Ockerschlamm hat eine kräftige Ockerfärbung des Bachbettes zur Folge. Er macht Insektenlarven und Fischen ein Überleben in solchen Gewässern unmöglich, da er deren Atmungsorgane zusetzt.
