EN: The civil court of Basel-Stadt is located at Bäumleingasse in the historic town center. The court of appeal and the office for recovery and collection are also located in the same building.

The court was built 1856 to 1859 after plans by Johann Jakob Stehlin. The architecture is inspired by the Florentine renaissance. It replaced a group of smaller medieval buildings that were the location of the court registry since 1762 and was converted into a courthouse 1808. Only 30 years later it had to be extended. The addition was planned by Heinrich Reese and built in 1895. This also included some changes to the original part.

In the 1960s there were plans for bigger building at the same address, but a referendum stopped this. As a consequence the criminal court and the juvenile court moved out to new locations.

DE: Das Zivilgericht des Kantons Basel-Stadt befindet sich an der Bäumleingasse im Zentrum der Altstadt. Das Gebäude beherbergt auch das Appelationsgericht und das Konkursamt.

Das Gerichtsgebäude wurde 1856 bis 1859 nach Plänen von Johann Jakob Stehlin im Stil der florentinische Renaissance erbaut. Es ersetzte ein Gruppe kleinerer mittelalterlicher Gebäude, wo seit 1762 die Gerichtsschreiberei untergebracht war und die seit 1808 als Gericht dienten. Nur 30 Jahre später musste es schon wieder erweitert werden. Der Anbau wurde von Heinrich Reese geplant und wurde 1895 fertiggestellt. Dabei kam es auch zu einigen Änderungen am Hauptgebäude.

In den 1960er Jahren musste erneut erweitert werden. Der geplante Neubau an dieser Adresse wurde in einer Volksabstimmung verworfen. In der folge wurden das Kriminal- und das Jugendgericht an neue Standorte verlegt.
