At NW 36th St and N Walker Ave, atop a circular patio made up of numerous large rocks sits a stone bench dedicated to the memory of Lisa "Lee" Evans. Ms. Evans was killed by a drunk driver at this intersection on July 13, 1997.
The top of the bench is engraved with:
IN MEMORY OF LISA (LEE) EVANS

Lisa Carol "Lee" Evans: December 2, 1970 - July 13, 1997
Born at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Lee Evans was a military family's daughter, traveling from Alaska to Kansas to Texas to Washington, D.C., before coming to Oklahoma. She enrolled in the University of Oklahoma, graduating with a B.A. in journalism in 1991. She was a great source of inspiration for other minority students; she made a significant difference in their lives by her example of diligent work to achieve goals and dreams. She joined KFOR-TV in 1994, quickly earning a weekend anchor/reporter position through her prestige. She was the first reporter from KFOR to deliver news of the Oklahoma City bombing on April 19, 1995. She was a rising star in the field of journalism. Lee Evans will always be remembered as a bright, shining star with a bubbly personality, who set an example through her desire and drive to get ahead in life. Journalism scholarships at The University of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Association of Black Journalists are named after her.
