The RIT Observatory has periodic open houses. The most recent one was June 5, 2012, to watch the transit of Venus across the Sun... an event that won't happen again until 2117. They had fantastic turnout for the openhouse, so you will see people in all my pictures!
The 5-meter Ash Dome contains a 12-inch Meade Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, permanently mounted on an Astro Pier.
The building with the roll-top (looks like a quansit hut) has a a 14-inch f/10 Celestron atop a big Astro-Physics German Equatorial mount which can be controlled by hand or by a computer.
Do I know what any of that means? No. So if I have any of this wrong, please let me know when you log your visit.
