EN: This fountain is located in Marktgasse near Käfigturm. It was built in 1545 to replace an older fountain from the 14th century. The statue was created by Hans Gieng. In 1785 the fountain was renovated the trough and the column were replaced. The column is an original ancient Roman column probably found in a suburb.
The statue is a woman that pours water into a dish. It is probably a symbol for the virtue temperance. In the 19th century the statue was said to be Anna Seiler, a noble woman who founded the first local hospital in 1354 (the hospital still exists today and has over 7000 employees). Before 1847 the fountain was called Kefibrunnen after the near-by prison.
DE: Dieser Brunnen befindet sich in der Marktgasse in der Nähe vom Käfigturm. Er wurde 1545 gebaut, um einen älteren Brunnen aus dem 14. Jahrhundert zu ersetzen. Die Statue wurde von Hans Gieng erstellt. Im Jahre 1785 wurde der Brunnen renoviert, den Trog und die Brunnensäule ersetzt. Die Säule ist eine original antike römische Säule, die wahrscheinlich in einem Vorort gefunden wurde.
Die Statue zeigt eine Frau, die Wasser auf einen Teller giesst. Wahrscheinlich ist es ein Symbol für die Tugend "Mäßigung". Im 19. Jahrhundert wurde die Statue als Anna Seiler gedeutet, eine edle Frau, die das erste örtliche Krankenhaus 1354 gegründet hatte (das Krankenhaus existiert heute noch und hat über 7000 Mitarbeiter). Vor 1847 wurde der Brunnen Kefibrunnen genannt nach dem nahe gelegenen Gefängnis.
