EN: The town wall of Laufen and the gates were built shortly after Laufen received town rights in 1295. Three gates and some short pieces of the wall have survived.
Obertor is the southern gate, it is attached to the old town hall in the East.
The gate has been changed several times over the centuries. I could not find any exact data,when the clock was added, the coat of arms is the one of Bern, so it must be from after 1815 when Laufen came to the canton Bern. The passage for pedestrians next to the main gate was added 1924.
DE: Die Stadtmauer von Laufen mit den Stadttoren wurde gebaut kurz nachdem Laufen das Stadtrecht im Jahre 1295 erhielt. Drei Tore und ein paar kurze Stücke der Mauer haben bis heute überlebt.
Das Obertor ist das südliche Tor, es ist direkt mit dem alten Rathaus im Osten verbunden.
Das Tor wurde mehrmals im Laufe der Jahrhunderte verändert. Ich konnten keine Daten finden, wenn die Uhr angebracht wurde, das Wappen über dem Tor ist das von Bern, also muss es nach 1815 angebracht worden sein, als Laufen an den Kanton Bern kam. Der Durchgang für Fußgänger neben dem Haupttor wurde 1924 durchbrochen.
