Behind the sculpture of a young Thurgood Marshall are two sets of Greek columns holding up embellished rectangular slabs of granite inscribed on the proper right behind Marshall with "Equal Justice" and on the proper left behind him with "Under Law." These phrases represent a summary of Thurgood Marshall's legal career.
