Fondée en 1961 par des immigrants d'origine italienne, la paroisse catholique de Notre-Dame-de-Pompei (Madonna di Pompei) a attendue jusqu'en 1967 avant de construire leur église située dans le quartier de Saint-Michel à Montréal. L'architecture de l'église a été clairement inluencé par le Vatican 2 (Concile Œcuménique Vatican II), une entreprise vaste de la modernisation de l'Eglise, qui a eu lieu entre 1962 à 1965. La principale implication pour les fidèles, était un changement dans lithurgie, qui s'est rapidement reflété dans la façon de construire des nouvelles églises à cette époque.
Saint-Michel est une ancienne ville de l'île de Montréal devenue un quartier après son annexion à Montréal le 24 octobre 1968. Son nom fait référence au boulevard Saint-Michel, une de ses principales artères.
Le quartier Saint-Michel est délimité au sud-ouest par l'avenue Papineau et la rue d'Iberville, au nord-est par la 25e avenue, la rue Jarry Est et la 24e avenue, au sud-est par la rue Bélanger et l'Autoroute 40 et au nord-ouest par la voie ferrée ligne Mascouche Il est divisé en trois voisinages: Sud (23 360 habitants), Ouest (21 930 habitants) et Est (11 130 habitants).

Founded in 1961 by the immigrants of Italian origin, the roman catholic parish of Notre-Dame-de-Pompei (Madonna di Pompei) waited until 1967 before building their church located in the St Michel district of Montreal The church's architecture has been clearly influenced by Vatican 2 (Second Vatican Ecumenical Council), a vast entreprise of the modernization of the Church, which took place between 1962 to 1965. The main implications for the faithfulls, was a change in lithurgy, which quickly reflected in the way the construction of the new churches of that time was made.
Saint-Michel is a former town on the island of Montreal that became a neighborhood after its annexation to Montreal on October 24, 1968. Its name refers to Boulevard Saint-Michel, one of its main arteries.
The Saint-Michel district is bounded to the southwest by avenue Papineau and rue d'Iberville, to the northeast by 25th avenue, rue Jarry Est and 24th avenue, to the southeast by rue Bélanger and Highway 40 and to the northwest by the Mascouche line railway. It is divided into three neighborhoods: South (23,360 inhabitants), West (21,930 inhabitants) and East (11,130 inhabitants).
