Bellver Castle was built by 1311 as the castle for the King of Mallorca, James II (Jaume II)in the 14th century. It has served as a fortification, the residence of the kings of Mallorca, a prison, and now a museum. It offers great views over Palama.

The unique feature of this castle is its circular design. The outer wall is roughly circular, the moat and inner castle are circular, the watch towers are circular. This is not evident to the casual tourist but clearly shown in an aerial view. We hiked up from the port, paid the minor admission and enjoyed the tour. The views of Palma, the ports, the view to the Serra etc where great. The interior is a museum, first outlining the history of Palma and Mallorca and then showing artifacts collected from Greco-Roman times. It is well worth the time and price of admission.
