Built by Ole Olson, famed Central Oregon builder, the Milton Odem House is perhaps the best example of residential Streamline Moderne architecture in the State of Oregon. The design came about in the 1930's and 40's when buildings and products were cleaned or "streamlined" of all excess ornamentation. Typical elements of the style include: horizontal lines, flat overhanging eaves, rounded corners and glass block. Milton Odem and his wife Flossie were the proprietors of two movie theaters on Sixth Street in Redmond; The Mayfair and The Odem. Later the Odem's ran a drive-in theater on Odem-Medo Road, present day site of Albertson's Grocery Store.
