Marker Name: The New Redmond Hotel 1927
Marker Text: The New Redmond Hotel was built in 1927 by William and Fanny Wilson. It replaced the “old” Redmond Hotel, a two-story wood building that was destroyed by fire. The Wilsons, Alaskan pioneers, moved to Redmond in 1905, where they outfitted and financed gold prospectors. Mrs. Wilson was said to have helped keep the town afloat during the Depression. The inn was billed as “the finest hotel east of the mountains.” Today it stands as one of the few intact examples of 20th Century architecture in a restrained Georgian vein.
