Also known as Igreja Paroquial de São Brás de Alportel, the Igreja Matriz de São Brás de Alportel was initially built in 15h Century or in the early 16th Century (the first document referring to this church is dated 1518) and rebuilt in 1554.
From that date the church was successively improved and then severely damaged by the great earthquake of 1755. Later, already in the 19th Century, it was expanded.
