The text on the plaque reads as follows:
"Marion Dewar Plaza
This plaque commemorates the life, service and achievements of Marion Dewar, a respected Mayor (1978-1985), Member of Parliament (1987-1988), public health nurse, peace activist and committed volunteer. Marion Dewar served her city and country with conviction and distinction.
As Mayor of the City of Ottawa, Marion Dewar's lasting contributions include revitalizing the downtown core, supporting the arts, enhancing services for seniors and residents with disabilities and improving accessibility to affordable housing and child care. She was the driving force behind "Project 4000", whereby the City of Ottawa welcomed and supported thousands of refugees during the Southeast Asian refugee crisis in 1979.
Marion Dewar spent her time devoted to social justice and public service. She will be remembered by the residents of Ottawa for her vision, compassionate leadership and unwavering belief in what a community can achieve by working together to make a better world.
Dedicated on this 25th day of September, 1999"

Cette plaque commémore la vie, le service et les réalisations de Marion Dewar mairesse respectée (1978-1985), députée fédérale (1987-1988), infirmière en sante publique, militante pour la paix et benevole engagee. Marion Dewar a servi sa ville et son pays avec conviction et distinction.
Comme mairesse de la ville d’Ottawa, Marion Dewar a laissé des réalisations durables, notamment la revitalisation du centre-ville, le soutien aux arts, la bonification des services aux ainés et aux résidents handicapés ainsi que l’amélioration de l’accessibilité à des logements et a des services de garde d’enfants abordables. Elle a été l’âme dirigeante du «Projet 4000 », dans le cadre duquel la ville d’Ottawa a accueilli et appuyé des milliers de réfugiés au cours de la crise des réfugiés du Sud-est asiatique, en 1979.
Marion Dewar a consacré sa vie à la justice sociale et au service publique. Les résidents d’Ottawa se souviendront d’elle pour sa vision, son leadership empreint de compassion et sa conviction inébranlable qu’une collectivité peut accomplir de grandes choses lorsqu’elle se serre les coudes afin de créer un monde meilleur.
