UPDATE: There is a new bridge which caused this bridgeless water crossing obsolete.


On this spot there was a bridge which was destroyed by a flood. Currently there is a new bridge under construction, but this cross has been the only way to reach the southern villages of the island for some years now.

Sometimes the water is just too much and the traffic is cut. Which means the south of the island is cut. This happens often during the "rain season".

The cross is on the National Road 2, which was recently rebuilt with funds from Portugal. Probably the bridge under construction is part of the package.
