This clock tower is the one feature of Courthouse Square that continues to work correctly. The clock faces are circular with black hands and black numbers at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock positions. The clock faces appear on the east and west sides of the tower.

The $34 million Courthouse Square Transit Center represents the largest public works debacle in recent Salem history, having been shuttered not longer after its opening due to problems with the concrete mix which rendered the center to be declared structurally unsound. The result was years of litigation with the contractor, eventually leading to a $1.8 million settlement. Additional information on the now $23 million remediation plan is available at this link.
