This cave is a karst formation, located at a wayside reststop alongside Hiway 89 in Logan Canyon, Utah. The cave has been named after Thomas Ricks, a colonel in the Mormon Miltia, who "discovered" the spring and cavern while searching for a route from Cache Valley to Bear Lake Valley in 1865. The spring is supplied from melting snow, with a maximum flow of 32,000 gallons per minute, but also dries up in the winter when snow is not melting. For years, pioneers would collect water from the spring to use as drinking water, until they realized it was causing stomach ailments and today we know the water is infected with giardia.
The cave has been explored by divers.
