Slumgullion Pass (elev. 11,530 ft) takes its name from the Slumgullion Earthflow which in turn is said to be named for a multi-colored miner's stew or the muddy deposit left in the mining sluice boxes. Further down the road, you can view the
Slumgullion flow where tons of mud and rock traveled four miles from the hillside to form Lake San Cristobal, Colorado's second largest natural lake. It is still moving at a rate of about 21 feet per year.
