When the area of the former "Dürkopp Tor 6" plant was reconstructed to become an urban quarter for housing, art, culture and professional education as an associated project of the Expo world exhibition in Hannover in year 2000 (
visit link), this included a small park for recreation. It was named to commemorate Georg Rothgiesser (1858 - 1943), a businessman, engineer, inventor, publisher and amateur bicycle racer, who was one of the pioneers of the Bielefeld bicycle industry. Being a Jew, Rothgiesser became a victim of the Holocaust and was killed in the Theresienstadt concentration camp. Features of the park include benches, a playground, a climbing wall, a sculpture (waymarked
here) and some murals (waymarked
here) on the wall of the youth hostel in direct neighbourhood. At one entrance of the park (where the coordinates have been taken), there is a stone memorial and a plaque with some details of Rothgiesser's life.
