In the Chestnut Hill neighborhood that is in Boston, Newton, and Brookline, is the Boston College main campus, which has a fountain that has a sculpture called 'The Tree of Life.'
The sculpture is located northeast of Gasson Hall, which is a building which has a large bell tower and clock. The location is about 100 ft east of the monument topped by an eagle on the north entrance to the hall, and 200 ft west of the entrance to the Tip O'Neil Library.
The installation stands about 10 ft high, and consists of a fountain, with a bronze statue in the center. At first glance, it appears to be a two trunked tree with branches that extend above and the tree canopy is on top, which also has the impression of being two hands. On closer inspection, there are many details. At the very base are two humans, a boy and a girl, peering into the space between the trunks. The base has many shape and face forms. Inside, according to one of the articles found about the sculpture, there is an infant. Among the canopy is a limp body extending between the two trunks, which is said by the article to represent the body of Christ Jesus. There is a bird near the top that respresents the holy spirit. There are other child figures and symbols such as the crucifix in the tree, as well.
The plaque nearby has text as follows:
"The Tree of Life
This sculpture by artist Peter Rockwell incorporates many of the Trinitarian images of Christian iconography. Both Old and New Testament references are abundant here, incorporating in a new way of the Living Word.
Given in loving memory of Jane Brian Engelhard by her daughter Sally Engelhard Pingree, Boston College Trustee and the Charles W. Engelhard Foundation
September 13, 2005"
The sculpture appears to be in good condition.
