Oslo's Viking Ship Museum has three ancient ships on display. The Oseberg Ship was built around 800 AD and excavated 1904-1905.
Of course, visitors are not allowed to touch the ships...but a replica of the Oseberg's stem was recreated in order to permit inspection of the detail...and visitors are invited to touch.
A sign at the location reads:
"Reconstruction of the serpent's head at the stem of the Oserbergship. Please touch."
The detail depicts an intricately carved and coiled snake.
