This life-sized bronze piece depicts a man wearing a gold visor...and strenously running with his body low to the ground and his legs taking huge strides. He holds some type of contraption with his hands...on his back which would appear to serve as rudders or wings. It is set on a black marble plinth about 4 feet high.
A plagie at the site reads:
"WINGED RUNNER
by Roy Shifrin
Presented to the People of Orange County by
UNITED ARTS OF CENTRAL FLORIDA, INC.
as a donation from
SeaWorld Orlando

"The Winged Runner
Originally cast in Barcelona, Spain, this second cast of Winged Runner was on display at SeaWorld for many years. With an astronaut-like facemask and inadequate wings it is a monument to “dreamers.” The first cast of Winged Runner is at The United States Olympic Training Facility in San Diego, CA and won the “Orchid” award from a jury of architects and city planners. Another cast stands at Lebanon Airport in New Hampshire."
Another of Shifrin's works is on the other side of this building, see (
