John George Diefenbaker was the 13th Prime Minister of Canada, serving from June 21, 1957, to April 22, 1963. He was the only Progressive Conservative party leader between 1930 and 1979 to lead the party to an election victory, doing so three times, although only once with a majority of seats in the Canadian House of Commons.
The Diefenbaker house was built in 1912 and purchased in 1947 by The Right Honourable Prime Minister of Canada John Diefenbaker and his then wife Edna Diefenbaker. After Edna's death it became the home of John's second wife, Olive. Olive and John donated the house to the City of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan in 1975 to be used as a museum.
This house was the residence of John G. Diefenbaker immediately prior to his becoming Prime Minister of Canada and was opened to the public as a museum in 1983.
The museum is furnished as it was in Mr. Diefenbaker's day. Within the museum you will find artefacts, documents and photographs of Canada’s thirteenth Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Prince Albert.
