The box is still in use and makes a splash of red against the brilliant white walls of the former Bell Hotel. It looks as though several coats of red paint over the years have soften'd embossed lettering and all other features. The lock appears to be original. no identifying marks are visible.
Tell us about the area the post box is situated.: To the right entrance to the Santander Bank the box faces Orford Hill. This is one of the many open spaces in the centre of Norwich. The bank itself once formed part of the Bell Hotel, an historic coaching inn. There is a blue plaque, also a Waymark, on the other side of the entrance giving a potted history of the Bell.
Orford Hill has recently had a makeover with new pavements and cobblestones laid amongst the trees. Predominately a pedestrian area, it is lined by many imposing buildings. Number 6, on the corner, is grade II listed. High up above number 8 is a large imposing stag which advertised the firms of gun makers who used to trade from the premises.
