This one-story Italianate style house is considered to be an excellent example of a "West Coast Hipped Roof Cottage." The house is thought to be one of the first built in the oldest East Salem subdivision, constructed around 1870. It was built by James Joseph, a stone cutter, on a lot he purchased from George Washington Gray.
