De Strooplikker
Rond 1600 zijn de Langeraarse plassen ontstaan doordat
plaatselijke arbeiders er de turf hebben weggestoken.
Het loon was karig. Degene die toch beleg op zijn brood
wilde nam het goedkoopste wat er in die tijd was.
Men doopte zijn stuk brood in de stroop.
Zo ontstond de naam "De Strooplikker".
De persoon afgebeeld in het kunstwerk/beeld
neemt zijn naam wel heel letterlijk.
The Syruplicker
Around 1600, the lakes near Langeraar were formed
by local workers who dug away the peat.
The pay was meager. Those who still wanted spread on their bread
took the cheapest thing in those days.
One dipped his bread in the syrup.
Thus arose the name "The syruplicker".
The person depicted in the artwork / image
takes its name very literally.
