This property was purchased by William Everett Anderson and his wife Nora Anderson in 1909 and until 1926, they lived on this property in what is now known as the Spayd-Anderson Cottage. The original cottage was moved to the other side of Court Street and in 1928, the Anderson's had their new, Colonial-style home built. William Anderson's father came to Oregon by wagon train and is thought to have established the first saloon in Salem. William Anderson established Anderson Sporting Goods Company in 1920, which existed downtown Salem until 2001. Nora Anderson was a philanthropist who at her death left more than $50,000 to the Salem Public Library, where the Nora Anderson Auditorium was named in her memory. She also established the Salem Garden Club.
