This Queen Anne / Eastlake style house was built for Howard Ashby, solicitor for the State Land and Trust Company. The house was built by Charles Burggraf, an architect and builder who was well-known as one of the most respected designers in Salem. In 1898, Ashby sold the house to Clemma and Frank Durbin. Mr. Durbin studied law at Willamette University, owned hop years, and entered prize-winning cattle at the State Fair.
