This survey mark is the top center of the water tower located on the south side of Avenue C about halfway between Main Street and Thompson Street in Sylvia, Kansas.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1953 (JCM)

THE STATION IS LOCATED NEAR THE CENTER OF THE TOWN OF SYLVIA, AND ONE BLOCK EAST OF THE MAIN STREET.

THE TANK IS SUPPORTED BY FOUR STRUCTURAL STEEL LEGS AND IS APPROXIMATELY 125 FEET HIGH. THE ENTIRE STRUCTURE IS PAINTED SILVER AND SYLVIA IS IN BLACK LETTERS ON THE NORTH AND SOUTH SIDES OF THE TANK PROPER. THE POINT OBSERVED WAS A BALL AT THE APEX.

The conical top of the tank is now painted green.
