Tanzlinden, als eine besondere Form der herkömmlichen Dorflinde, kamen während der Romantik und der Biedermeierzeit auf. Bei den ab Mai traditionall gefeierten dörflichen Tanzfesten wurde nun in hierzu speziell hergerichtetetn Linden "im Baume" getanzt. Hierfüre wurden die Äste der Linde in etwa drei Meter Höhe waagerecht nach außen gebogen, so dass sich auf das Astwerk ein hölzeener Tanzboden einlegen ließ. Die außerhalb der Tanzfläche wieder nach oben wachsenden Äste bildeten mit ihrem Laubwerk ein breites, schattiges Dach über vdem Tanzboden aus.
