You are in Antonito, a small town located in Conejos County, Colorado. Hundreds of years ago you may have seen Ute Indians chasing buffalo across the valley. And up until the mid 1800's you may have called yourself a Mexican if you lived here. In the 1880's you may have come here on the railroad from the mines near Chama, NM. Today, however, you can see remnants of all these civilizations. Locals have distinct Indian and Spanish features and the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad operates on what remains of the Denver & Rio Grande Western's narrow gauge San Juan extension.
