The address is of this art work is 17747 San Pedro, San Antonio, TX, but most people would most likely associate the address with the access road of Hwy 281 that cuts through the middle of the city on its way toward from Brownsville, TX the Canadian border in Montanta. The coordinates and a good GPS will get you to the waymark of a bench inscribed within the top slab of blue granite with the that reads:
"Vector IV - Richard Harrell Rogers - Given in Memory of Ronald David Eubank 1935-1985"
The blue granite is set upon red granite supports forming the body of the bench. The bench part is composed of two similarly formed blue and red benches, with the longer benches in front extending about 5 feet. The smaller black and red bench portion is about 4 feet long but is placed behind the longer portion and offset by about 2 feet. A stainless steel parallelogram form is angled and attached to the smaller bench portion to appear that it penetrates the granite and comes out the middle of the end of the granite at an angle that extends several feet beyond the bench on the observer's right side. It leaves an impression of a large steel "check mark."
There are several pieces of sculpture in the San Antonio area created by the late Richard Harrell Rogers. Born in 1941, he was a quadriplegic artist who designed and created large metal sculptures as well as designing improvements to wheelchairs for which he was granted 5 patents. Many of his works are on permanent display at the McNay Museum in San Antonio, but there are also several large public art displays dotted around San Antonio that are easily accessible to view at any time.
