After digging of the Morssingel and the construction in 1611 of the bastion at the corner of the Galgewater a bridge has been built between the Eerste Binnenvestgracht and the Weddesteeg. This was a high bridge which had to be replaced by a lower one in 1650. The bridge was called Lange Houten brug, but also Pelikaansbrug or Rode Brug. Repairs were performed by Jasper van Vliet. It was totally renewed in 1757 by Pieter van den Bosch. In 1817 the bridge was sold to be demolished to Jan van Leeuwen Jacz. for 312 guilders. Until 1916 there was a small ferryboat
