EN: Madeln is a ruined castle on the summit of the Adler Mountain south of Pratteln. It was probably built around 1270 by the Lords of Eptingen. It was destroyed in the earthquake of Basel in 1356 and, in contrast to the castle in the village of Pratteln, not rebuilt.

Apparently parts of the castle remained for a longer time, in the 16th century the palas still had four floors, but in the 18th century only few traces were left. 1939 some remains of the wall were rediscovered by soldiers during the construction of border fortifications. The ruins were excavated and large parts examined. In 1943, they were again covered with earth, to preserve them from decay.

Today only the moats of the castle Madeln are clearly visible on the surface.

DE: Madeln ist eine Burgruine auf dem höchsten Punkt des Adlerbergs südlich von Pratteln. Sie wurde vermutlich um 1270 von den Herren von Eptingen angelegt. Sie wurde 1356 beim Erdbeben von Basel zerstört und im Gegensatz zur Burg im Dorfkern von Pratteln nicht wieder aufgebaut.

Offenbar waren Teile der Burg noch länger erhalten; im 16. Jahrhundert scheinen vom Palas noch vier Stockwerke gestanden zu haben, aber im 18. Jahrhundert waren nur noch wenige Spuren zu finden. 1939 wurden einige Mauerreste von Soldaten beim Bau von Grenzbefestigungen wiederentdeckt. Darauf wurden grosse teile der Ruine ausgegraben und untersucht. 1943 wurde sie wieder mit Erde zugeschüttet, um sie vor dem Verfall zu bewahren.

Heute sind von der Burg Madeln an der Oberfläche nur die Burggräben eindeutig zu erkennen.
