At the coordinates given is a pullout along Highway 3/6 with an informational sign for Upper Bonnington Dam. On the sign is a print of the pen and ink sketch of the City of Nelson Powerhouse with the falls in the background and the Kootenay river flowing past in the foreground.

My photo is from a slightly higher elevation than that of the artwork as the artist was likely somewhat younger than myself, and the way down do his vantage point looked a little too steep for me to attempt. Coordinates for the artwork and the photo are essentially the same. No need to tell the visitor where to look to see the proper view. If they can't figure that out for themselves they shouldn't be let out of the house;^)

The Upper Bonnington Dam is the second of a series of four dams and generating stations that were built along this 4.5 km. stretch of river. Construction on the dam began in 1905 and the original powerhouse was completed in 1907, upgraded in 1916 and expanded in 1940 to a capacity of 66 MW (MegaWatts). The City of Nelson Powerhouse, across the river from the Bonnington Powerhouse, was completed in the same year and supplies power for the city.
