Located a little north of Lincoln Park's prominent fountain, this Memorial depicts a lifesized firefighter atop a pedestal holding a child. Unfortunately there is no information about the artist, but the Smithsonian Inventory (
visit link) lists Dickson Bros., design firm.
Under the pedestal is a short stone column with the following engraved text:
"FARRIER MEMORIAL
TO THE
VOLUNTEER FIREMEN
OF
JERSEY CITY
ERECTED THROUGH THE
BEQUEST OF
CAPT. FREDERICK T. FARRIER
AS A TOKEN OF THE FRIENDSHIP
AND ESTEEM IN WHICH HE HELD
HIS FORMER ASSOCIATES IN THE
VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT
EDWIN M. FARRIER
EXECUTOR
1931"
Each side of the upper pedestal has one word engraved on it: "VALOR", "READINESS", "COURAGE" AND "DEVOTION"
