This log cabin is known as the oldest log cabin in Dubuque County. It shares the parking lot with the Matthias Ham historical home in Dubuque. The marker reads as follows:
Oldest log cabin in Dubuque County. About 1827. Occupied by the pioneer settler William Newman. 1834. Brought to this site and restored through the efforts of Frederick E. Bissell, Sr. Aided by interested citizens and members of the Dubuque Park Board.
Erected 1957 by Dubuque Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.
