When Jane Ashton died in 1862, she was buried in a beautiful quiet spot on her father’s farmstead. In 1871 after others had been buried there as well, the plot was deeded to become a public cemetery. In 1897 the neighboring church was built. While it was affiliated with the Congregational Church for the first 25 years, it has been non-denominational since then. It still serves an active community of worshipers today. There are close to 60 people buried in the cemetery. The chapel owns and cares for the cemetery.
