Two, Six, Heave!
Each gun or cannon had a gun crew of six men, numbering one through six. The numbers went from the gun captain (one), who aimed and fired the gun, down in rank to the powder monkey (six), who would collect gunpowder from the magazine, deep within the ship's hold. When the gun had to be heaved into the gunport, the crew would have to heave together, which is where the phrase 'two, six, heave!' is believed to have originated.
