The lighthouse was one of two identical cast iron towers manufactured in England to a design by C.Y. O'Connor, the engineer responsible for the construction of Fremantle Harbour,The lighthouses arrived in 1902 but this one was not installed until 1906 after waiting for the earthworks to settle, it has a height of 15m and a range of 18km and is a fixed red light. Above the door is a plaque marking the 100th anniversary of the beginning of work on constructing Fremantle Harbour in November 1892
The mole is a vantage point to watch the comings and goings among the ships and is a favorite fishing spot for the locals
