Avoca Public School was established in 1872 & the school house was built in 1876. It has survived as a school since then attracting students from surrounding farms & other localities. Avoca comprises farms, two or three residences, a community hall & the school.
The school house is built of local sandstone & has had a wooden annex added at a later stage. The old home next door was the teacher's residence but is now the administration centre & library. An undercover assembly area & amenities block can be seen to the left of the school house.
You can view the school house from the road verge & pathway but it is illegal to enter school grounds in New South Wales unless you are authorised to do so. You should use discretion when taking photographs. I visited during school holidays.
The original school bell can be seen on the left hand side.
