The cap is located in the northwest corner of the bridge’s west sidewalk, below the Depoe Bay Bridge name plate. The cap was set by the Oregon State Highway Department in 1940 and was stamped Q198.

RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1987 RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION, A NEW DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS. 20.8 KM (12.90 MI) NORTHERLY ALONG U.S. HIGHWAY 101 FROM ITS JUNCTION WITH U.S. HIGHWAY 20 IN NEWPORT, IN THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF THE WEST SIDEWALK OF A BRIDGE SPANNING DEPOE BAY INLET AND JUST BELOW THE DEPOE BAY BRIDGE NAME PLATE, 13.1 M (43.0 FT) WEST OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE HIGHWAY, 4.8 M (15.7 FT) NORTH OF A STAIRWAY TO THE BRIDGE SUBWAY, 4.2 M (13.8 FT) WEST OF TRIANGULATION STATION MARK REEF, 1.9 M (6.2 FT) SOUTH OF THE CENTER OF A STAIRWAY LEADING TO THE DEPOE BAY STATE PARK GIFT SHOP, AND 0.3 M (1.0 FT) EAST OF THE WEST GUARDRAIL. THE MARK IS 0.2 M ABOVE THE HIGHWAY.
